Ramblers plan a double header

- Mike Wilson

Look out your walking boots on Saturday when Ayr & District Rambling Club are organising two walks.

The more strenuous is a 7.75- mile route starting at Durisdeer village and following the farm track parallel to the Roman Road, which involves a gentle ascent for about two miles.

The route ascends steeply onto Durisdeer Hill, and from here follows the ridge to Little Scaw’d Law and Scaw’d Law ( 663m) before dropping down to cross a track and make the short climb onto Glenleith Fell.

This is followed by a steep grassy descent to the shooter’s bothy near Blackhill Moss. The final section of the walk continues downhill on the Glenaggart track back to the village. Contact Del Orr on 01292 739331.

The second walk, a pleasant and scenic route, will start at the seafront car park at Ballantrae and go along the River Stinchar before climbing gradually to the summit of Knockdolian ( 265m), from where there are fine views of the Firth of Clyde.

The descent will be on the north side to join the B734 for a short distance, passing Corseclays Farm, before crossing the A77 and walking along the beach back to the car park. Contact Elma McGregor on 01655 331231.

For both walks, meet at Millbrae car park in Ayr at 8.50am.
