The all- new Girvan Men’s Shed group are going from strength to strength after appointing a chairman.

Roddy MacDonald, who is also the co- ordinator of Girvan Town Team, is set to lead the battle.

He said: “It’s an honour to have been elected by the Shedders as the first chair of the Girvan and District Men’s Shed Association.

“Looking ahead, the primary target is to complete the design and construction of our own potting shed.

“Thereafter, we intend to develop a full programme of activities for 2018 based in the Town House and beyond. We are really grateful to the South Ayrshire Girvan Charitable Trust and the Big Lottery for their financial support.”

A Girvan Men’s Shed spokesman said: “The club is just about ready to purchase its first very fancy shed which will be located in the grounds of the Girvan Town House. The growth of interest in men’s sheds and the establishment of men’s sheds in Scotland in recent years has been remarkable.

“There are 101 sheds in Scotland and Girvan will make that 102, and Girvan is raring to go. A men’s is a meeting place where men come together and take part in a variety of mutually agreed activities.

“These “activities” often involve utilising wood, such as: carpentry, joinery, turning, carving or furniture restoration.

“Sheds may include a wide range of other activities.”
