Auchinleck boss gets his name on the door Stair SWI welcomes new members

He’s set to take on one of the biggest jobs in Ayrshire’s education system in a few years time.

But Peter Gilchrist will get plenty of practice before the Knockroon campus opens in 2019, replacing both Auchinleck and Cumnock Academies.

For he has been announced as the acting executive head teacher for both schools, adding the responsibility for Cumnock to his current job in Auchinleck.

He replaced outgoing Cumnock head Angus McVake, who retired last month after seven years in the role.

A letter sent to parents and pupils at both schools by Mr Gilchrist said: “As from October 23, I will be assuming the role of acting executive head teacher for both Auchinleck and Cumnock Academies with the overall responsibility for bringing the two school communities together as we move towards the merger.

“These are exciting times for our young people in Cumnock and Auchinleck as plans for the new Knockroon Campus start to take shape and the new headship positions in the two schools will help pupils, parents and staff alike prepare for the future education provision in our area.”

Mr Gilchrist will be based at Cumnock Academy as of next week, while Martin Robertson will assume the post of acting head teacher in Auchinleck.

Both schools will move to the Knockroon campus - between the two towns - when the £ 63.5 million school, with space for 2500 pupils, opens in two years time. Stair SWI President Hannah McNae welcomed members and new lady members to the October meeting.

The rural song was sung and business followed. Anne McLanachan was introduced and she demonstrated a variety of dishes including tomato soup, quick bread, cheese pudding and other delicious items. Every one had the opportunity to have a taste.
