Air traffic controllers turn Tough Mudders

- Sarah Hilley

It is takeoff time for air traffic controllers as they launch a huge fundraising drive.

Staff at NATs Prestwick have chosen the Ayrshire Hospice as their main charity for 2018.

A 30- strong team including chief executive Martin Rolfe are expected to compete in the gruelling Tough Mudder event next year. A sponsored bike ride, grand raffle and ball are part of the other plans to raise cash.

And last week staff took part in a bleep test to check their fitness levels.

Air traffic control supervisor Alex Laughlin said: “It was a fun event conducted in really good spirit and enjoyed by all who took part.”

An ambitious training schedule is underway and Alex added: “We are rather optimistically hoping to organise our mudders training to encompass covering the distance round the world, which is approximately 25,000 miles.

“This would require us keeping a tally of all their training miles whilst using various major cities along the route to highlight and raise some money.”
