Ayrshire Post

Time to get your act together

-

As a person that has lived in Ayr all my life, I am absolutely outraged again to read in this week’s Ayrshire post that the Council is about to spend over £ 100,000 on consultancy fees that we have all seen too often with this Council.

Who are these friendly consultants in dark circles that get all of this money? – our money?

It is clear that hardly any people in Ayr are satisfied with the way our council conducts it’s business, all you have to do is speak to the people of the town to realise this which I have done.

I can pretty much guarantee that nothing will change after these consultancy fees and the businesspeople and others living in Ayr will continue to bang their heads on a wall.

Here’s some free consultancy advice...

Clear the hundreds of bins away from Burns Statue Square, let the car’s park, work with the people instead of being a burden to them so they can get things done and pick up the bloody rubbish on the pavements.

Two litter pickers on £ 16,000 a year wage walking up and down the town constantly all year long would be a thousand times better than your idea of circulating six- figure sums of our coffers into dark pockets.

Just take a walk down the town and see all the rubbish blowing about.

The town is competing with places like Silverburn now and the council needs to get its act together.

Won’t happen though, they would just beat us with our own money. the event safe for quests arriving and leaving and for other road users. Thanks again. Just because the council has been asked to put up an LGBT flag, do we all have to swallow this?

Do we all have to swallow political correctness? People are afraid to speak out in what was once a free country.

People are afraid to speak out in what was once a free country.

Would those who want me to accept their belief, accept my belief? I. e. the gospel of Jesus Christ which once made this country great.

What of the line in the song Land of Hope and Glory, “God who made us mighty, make us rise again”.

Do you want this country to rise or to fall? Do you want Auld Ayr to be again a great town with plenty of employment – then the answer is, turn back to God, don’t go against His word.

I love Ayr, and I love and respect all the people there, but I dare not adhere to all their beliefs.

Is there no fear of God left in this country? Silenty majority please speak up! As Stuart Wilson may recall, I have expressed my concerns over the placement of the wrong people in charge of Prestwick Airport for the past two years.

There are a handful of “the wrong people“who remain in positions at Prestwick Airport, who I would say have no grasp or professional competence, sufficient to make any positive effects to the downward decline of a once proud national asset.

And yes there are aviation professionals who CAN turn round the fortunes of Prestwick. Yet the politicians simply fail to take this on board. The visitors locker room at Dalmilling Golf Course has been bolted shut for a year.

This is why there is a lack of visitors playing Dalmilling. No facilities for them and it is a disgrace.

Dalmilling has never been upgraded in the last 20 years. This is why no outings come back.

The Members upgraded the committee room with their own resources and are willing to do the same with the big house for a new clubhouse.

South Ayrshire Council is deliberately running the course down so it does not attract golfers.

It is also open to anybody after 5pm as there is nobody in the pro shop to take tickets or money and that happens all through the year. May I through your letter column, thank the various people who stopped to assist me when I was knocked down by a car at the junction of Castlehill Rd and St. Andrews Street in Ayr on September 26.

A taxi driver, a male driver and a young lady who works at Ayr A& E who insisted on calling an ambulance all helped. I was taken to A& E at Ayr, checked over, x- rayed and let home.

I got off lightly with a bruised left arm, thigh and buttocks and was able to fulfil a volunteering commitment the following afternoon in Glasgow for the RNIB.

Thanks also to paramedics, A& E staff and Red Cross drivers. Shocking, disgusting, and totally unacceptable.

I refer, of course, to the front page of the Ayrshire Post on the chemo service at Ayr facing the axe.

For whose benefit is this mindless plan? Certainly not for present or future patients of South Ayrshire. Liz Moore, Director of Acute Services says, I quote: “This review is to ensure that chemotherapy services are continuously provided to a high standard by the right staff.”

We don’t have the “wrong staff“at Ayr, do we ? That CANNOT be the reason.

Where and when have these engagements with the public and others taken place on this matter? When are these future supposedly engagements taking place?

I wonder, do any of these planners know what a course of chemotherapy treatment can be like? Do they understand or even know what the side effects can be?

Sickness, physical, psychological, and stressful, not to mention hair loss. Now these powers that be want to add even more stress by incurring perhaps three hours or more travelling time.

Not everyone has private transport at their disposal. Ayrshire Cancer Support are wonderful.

I was lucky enough to have their voluntary services for transport for radiation for six weeks at Gartnavel.

Which department is next on the list for the chopping block I wonder?

What does South Ayrshire Council have to say about this? Are they going to give patients their support by opposing this plan? What does our council say?

Is this really, already, a DONE deal?

Please extend my thanks to the passengers at Ayr station on Wednesday, October 25 at 7.30pm, who immediately came to my assistance after a fall.

I’m very grateful.
