John’s huge catch

SPRINGWATE­R FISHERY John Allardyce caught a monster 16lb 8oz rainbow on the bait loch and then was too scared to hold it!

So he got his mate Brian Mooney to hold it for the camera.

The first week of the winter stocking programme saw a good head of doubles and normal size rainbows going into both fly and bait lochs.

Fly loch: Graham Bicket seven c/ f including a brownie, John Brown six c/ r, Derek Russell six c/ r, Ryan five c/ r, Jacky Baillie four c/ r, Jim Bigger four c/ r.

There were also three fish caught all over 20lb for Ian Crossan, Mick Goodwillie and Scott Crossan.

Tony had one at 18lb, Scott Crossan one for 23lb new PB, Davie Galloway one for 20lb, Neil Shankland c/ r 11 and Scott Crossan c/ r 15.

Bait loch: John Allardyce three for 21lb including a new PB of 16lb 8oz, wee Brian three for 8lb, Mr and Mrs Davidson six for 14lb 4oz, Davie Kernachan two for 5lb, Brian Scott four for 8lb 4oz, Ross Skimming three for 7lb 12oz.

The coarse loch was quiet last week. PRESTWICK AC The club’s annual prize giving will be held on Friday, November 3 at Glenburn Miners Club. Doors open 7pm, all members and family welcome. BROOMHILL COARSE AND FLY Carp still getting caught on the Tip Rod with Sweetcorn being the best bait.

Thanks to all the coarse fishing anglers who donated money in to the Harvey Maule Charity, all to Cancer Research and Macmillan Nurses. More than £ 1600 was raised.

Fly pond: Still fishing well with big Rainbows, Tigers and Blues getting caught. Dry fly fishing is still good.

Meanwhile, the fishery has won an award for the second year running for supporting Young People in Care, working along Radical Services.

Young Billy Patrick also got an award for Excellence in Employment.
