Ayr go up to the nines with big win

-

Ayr hockey men’s 1st XI continued their hot form with a 9- 1 home win against a youthful Clydesdale.

Six came in a rampant second half with Aston Kerr scoring four.

Robert Clark finished off a superb team move but the goal of the game went to Murray McBride who picked the ball up in midfield and drove at the defence.

They pushed him wide1 but he unleashed a shot from a tight angle that rocketed into the top corner.

Clydesdale managed a late consolation.

Ayr Ladies 1st XI lost 4- 1 at home to league leaders Stirling Wanderers.

The visitors struck first from a penalty flick past keeper Valerie Ogilvie.

After skilful play in midfield from Isla Novak, Wallis Wyllie and Eva Richardson, followed by a beautiful cross from Alice Wilson, Louise Hill scored what can only be described as Ayr’s goal of the season so far, diving to get a touch on the ball and put it in the back of the net.

However, Stirling were stronger after the break and eased to victory.

Player of the match was shared between Claire Parker, Valerie Ogilvie, Eilidh Thomson and Laura Smith with almost every player getting at least one vote.

The ladies 1st XI return on November 11 at home to Dundee Uni 2s.

Ayr men’s seconds beat Giffnock 2- 0 to stay top of the league.

After a slow start, Luca Hall accelerated down the pitch, crossing perfectly and was awarded a penalty corner.

A good push out by Alex French was stopped and hit firmly home by sweeper John Hay to put Ayr ahead against all odds.

Tom Laing’s speed and skill provided several chances but the win wasn’t sealed until Hay scored from a penalty corner.

Ayr next play East Kilbride in two weeks.
