-

An entrepreneur is setting ambitious targets after receiving national recognition for her work.

Vanessa Good, who runs her own travel company, is winning rave reviews for her leadership at the age of 30.

Her firm, The Good Travel Company, employs seven people across two sites in Ayr and Dumfries and has just reached the final of a UK- wide contest for a £ 20,000 store makeover.

Vanessa, a former Belmont Academy pupil, has taken up the reins of her family firm, which has also sold foreign currency for more than 10 years.

She said: “My dad, Richard, was a bit of a pioneer back when he set up Stonefield Financial Services.

“I take a lot of my inspiration from what he achieved.”

Vanessa, who is already a business mentor with the Prince’s Trust, heads up her firm from Ayr’s Newmarket Street.

She added: “There’s still an important role to be played by independent travel firms.

“Our business is certainly strong at the moment.

“Sometimes there’s nothing better than the old- fashioned personal service that customers want.”
