Philippa MP of Year hope
MP Philippa Whitford is in the running for a political award.
The Central Ayrshire member has been nominated at the 2017 UK Patchwork Foundation MP of the Year Awards.
Contenders are nominated by individuals and people from grassroots community organisations who wish to commend Members of Parliament for the hard work they do throughout the year, particularly in relation to their work with underrepresented, deprived and minority communities.
The ceremony will take place today ( Wednesday), where the winners, selected by an independent panel of judges, will be announced.
Philippa, who lives in Troon, said:“I am honoured to have been nominated for the MP of the Year award, particularly as nominations are submitted by individuals and groups whom I represent and work hard to support in my role as an MP.
“Facilitating new initiatives such as Dementia Friendly Troon and the Ayrshire- wide Food Security Network is extremely rewarding. Bringing different people and organisations together who need support or have a common goal is something I regard as a key part of my job.
“The Patchwork Foundation does an excellent job of promoting and encouraging the integration of under- represented communities into civil society, which is essential if we are to have a political system which represents and includes everyone.
“Whether or not I win, I am just delighted to have been nominated and for the work my team and I do to have been recognised. I wish all the nominees the best of luck.”
