Russians pay a visit

Students enjoy USA trip to West Coast

-

Belmont had the privilege to welcome students and teachers from Grammar School 61 from St Petersburg, Russia.

At the Russian school, the literature works of Robert Burns are compulsory in their curriculum so they were keen to visit Ayr which is so closely related to Robert Burns.

Senior students gave the visitors a tour of the school.

The Russian students then performed their take on Tam o’ Shanter and other Robert Burns works.

Head teacher Tracy Stewart said: “They were very well educated on this subject area and performed brilliantly.

“We learned about the school’s successes and are keen to cherish this link between our schools.” Pupils and teachers from Belmont Academy recently embarked on a West Coast America tour.

They visited Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Flagstaff - the trip was arranged by Miss Pollock from the Modern Studies department.

After an early start at 2am on the October 4, five days were spent in America.

The trip involved many activities such as; spending a day in Universal Studios in LA, having dinner at the Stratosphere in Las Vegas and doing a tour of the Strip, visiting the Hoover Dam and floating down the Colorado River, going to the Grand Canyon and doing a Pink Jeep Tour.

Some of the favourites amongst the pupils was the tour of the Colorado River where everyone was on a boat that floated down the river and stopped at a beach for lunch.

This gave everyone the opportunity to swim in the river before continuing the tour down the rest of the river.
