Storm sink Cavaliers early

-

Basketball Ayr Storm U16 men returned to Scottish Cadet League action and beat Clyde Cavaliers 76- 49 at Greenock.

Ayr raced 10 points ahead with baskets from Keegan ( game high 28pts), Morrison ( 14pts) and Gibbons ( 18pts) and led 25- 10 at the end end of the opening period.

This gave stand- in coach Owen Gibbons a base to use and run the bench early.

Storm took P2 12- 7 to lead 37- 17 at the half. Cavaliers quickly chipped away at the lead, scoring more points in the third period than in the previous two, winning it 20- 11.

A switch in defence from Ayr in the final period swung the momentum back with Keegan and Gibbons combining for 21 of Ayr’s points in P4 which was won 28- 11.

Regular coach Danny Gibbons and fellow Ayr players Billy Reid and Jim Connor were with the Strathclyde Masters 50s team in the Galway International Masters tournament.

One win and one loss on day one saw them go into the plate semi final where they beat Rochdale Masters.

The final was edged by only one point by London Eagles.

Storm men’s first team lost 91- 67 in SLBA div1 away to Glasgow Fever. The men’s second team lost away to Dunoon Lions 77- 45 while the Ayr Masters lost away to Bishopton Broncos 73- 53.
