Lawrie Dinwoodie has told Girvan he’s there for as long as the club needs him.

But after leading them to a 3- 2 win over Glenafton in the West of Scotland Cup, he jokes the only way is downhill.

Dinwoodie, who was assistant to former boss Peter Leonard, was always the club’s first choice to succeed him in the hot seat.

He claimed: “It’s an easy job to come into because Peter left the team in great shape.

“I’ve told the club I’ll do the job as long as they need me and certainly until the end of the season.

“Ideally I would like someone to work with me until the end of the season and then let them take over.”

Girvan were linked with Andy Stevenson for that role but the veteran striker wants to continue playing with Annbank.

A first minute Michael Reilly strike fired Girvan ahead and Craig Reid added a double before the break.

Glens hit back through Ryan Borris and Kyle McAusland but Girvan held on.

Dinwoodie, who leads Girvan to Arthurlie on Saturday, added: “I couldn’t have asked for a better start. I suppose the only way now is downhill but I hope not.”

Glens are now on William Hill Scottish Cup duty with a trip to Championship high fliers Livingston.

Boss Craig McEwan said: “I have played there many times. It’s a great tie to look forward to.”
