REBECCA IS OUR HISTORY GIRL

Double trophy wins for Prestwick club

- Mike Wilson

She’s the toast of Prestwick Indoor Bowling Club and she’s only 15.

Rebecca Houston became the first female to win the SYIBA Masters, beating Stewart McAlees 8- 7, 8- 6 in the live TV final at Perth.

Rebecca, who is Prestwick’s youngest ever female champion, won the world indoor U25 mixed triples title last year when she was only 14.

She won U18 team gold in the fours at the British Isles Championships and is Prestwick Bowling Club’s ladies champion for the last two years.

It was an Indoor club double when honorary member and national coach David Gourlay, 51, reclaimed the Scottish Open title after an absence of 11 years.

He beat wildcard Scot Michael Stepney 9- 4, 11- 7 in a great final.

A club treble was foiled in the final of the SIBA Masters when Darren Weir lost 2- 0 in a tie break to Graeme Donaldson ( Elgin).

Prestwick gents continued their 100% start with an 89- 59 home win over Auchinleck.

Skips Craig Cobbledick, Colin Smith, Craig Lindsay and Darren Weir all won as Prestwick stayed two points clear.

The ladies lost 82- 60 at Inverclyde while the seniors fell 66- 51 away to Glasgow. On Saturday, the seniors entertain section leaders Blantyre.

This weekend sees the SIBA Fours playdowns with Paul Foster and Wilma Ogilvie skipping rinks. Both take on Dumbarton at East Kilbride on Saturday at 9.30am.

Darren Weir won through to the semi final of the U21 Singles on Sunday at Dumbarton. After three group wins, Darren beat Fraser Simpson ( Lanarkshire) 13- 12 to book his spot at the finals weekend in February at Coatbridge.

Allison Granger and Jill West beat East Kilbride in the SIBA Ladies Senior Pairs at Inverclyde after an extra end. They now take on Ayr in the last 16 in January at the same venue.
