Bottom nip ends on sex offenders register

- Sarah Hilley

A pervert nipped a woman’s bum in a bar to make his girlfriend jealous, a court heard.

Paul Kenny, 48, was added to the sex offenders register after touching the woman in the Harvest Bar pub in Ayr while his partner was there.

Kenny, of Wilson Street, also pushed his girlfriend and struck her with his body on the footpath outside the boozer on September 16.

Appearing in Ayr Sheriff Court last week, Kenny admitted sexually assaulting the woman in the pub. He also pled guilty to physically assaulting his partner outside.

Explaining the background to the sexual assault, Ian Gillies said: “He ( Kenny) nipped her bottom in an effort to make ( his partner) jealous.

“I don’t think the lady ( victim) was distraught. She was very angry and rightly so and she told Mr Kenny in no uncertain terms.”

Sheriff Mhairi Mactagggart said: “I am concerned at your client’s attempts to minimise it. He has to accept his culpability.”

Mr Gillies replied: “It is entirely culpable and entirely criminal but I would ask your ladyship to accept it is at the lower end of the scale.”

Earlier in the hearing, the lawyer said Kenny was having a “difficult time” and was the “victim of a serious assault in the summer.”

Mr Gillies added: “In an effort to cope with that he turned to alcohol. He was basically drinking far too much.

“Both of these matters occurred when Mr Kenny was very much under the influence. He accepts he must get that under control.”

Kenny who had been remanded in custody was ordered to do 210 hours of unpaid work. He must undergo community supervision for two years and has been added to the sex offenders register for the same period.

The thug also assaulted a barmaid in the Central Bar. He seized hold of Linzi McMaster and repeatedly pushed her on June 2.
