Weekend parking will be free
Boost to festive shoppers
People visiting Ayr to do their Christmas shopping at weekends won’t have to pay to leave their cars in council car parks and onstreet spaces.
South Ayrshire Council will suspend weekend charges until the end of the year to encourage more people to make the most of the busy town centre.
All on- street parking will be free as well as in the Council owned car parks in Barns Crescent, Charlotte Street, and Kyle Street every weekend, both in the run- up to Christmas, and up to and including Sunday, 31 December for sale shopping.
Private car parks will continue to charge as normal.
C o u n c i l l o r I a n Cochrane, the council’s portfolio holder for s u s t a i n a b i l i t y a n d environment said the move would help to add sparkle to high street sales, “With the countdown to Christmas now well and truly underway I’m sure this added incentive to visit Ayr town centre will be welcomed by shoppers and traders alike.
“By scrapping the charges for Council spaces, we’re hoping to encourage more people to choose local shops as the first choice for their festive shopping, while also encouraging visitors to travel from across the west of Scotland.
“I hope that people make good use of this initiative in the weeks ahead and I look forward to seeing a busy town centre in the run up to the New Year.”
Normal weekend parking charges will be reinstated from Saturday, January 6.
