Blow as Marr headmistress not at work
Marr College has lost its long- serving headmistress.
Elaine McGregor- Sloman has been marked “absent from school for a number of weeks.”
It means she is destined to miss the official opening of her school by education secretary John Swinney on Wednesday, November 29.
Her absence looks to be long term as her depute Graeme Hobson has been appointed acting head.
The school says it will also have to recruit an acting depute head to cover Mr Hobson’s role.
In a letter to parents he wrote: “As you may be aware our Head Teacher Mrs McGregor- Sloman has been absent from school for a number of weeks.
“I am writing to inform you that until her return I will take the position of Acting Head Teacher.”
Mrs McGregor- Sloman has been in post for six years after moving from Peebles High.
She has been at the helm for the difficult transformation of the campus into a modern place of learning.
Work has taken place over the past two years and finished with the gym last month.
One hundred VIP guests have been invited to the official opening.
The 82- year- old school has been transformed by a £ 35m redevelopment.
Keir Construction have been universally praised for their work, carried out while children were still on campus.
South Ayrshire Council education director Douglas Hutchison said “The head teacher is currently absent for personal reasons although it is expected that Mrs McGregor- Sloman will return to her post at the earliest opportunity.
“We have written to parents and carers to let them know that temporary arrangements have been put in place to fill the gap.
“We are also recruiting for a temporary depute head post, which will ensure the senior management team remains at full strength.”
