Disabled DJ’s video nasty

Winner Robyn misses out

- Beverley Lyons

Music fan Robyn Sneddon lost her chance to appear in a Liam Gallagher video – because the venue where it was filmed does not have wheelchair access.

Robyn, 19, made her disability clear when she entered a competition for tickets to the shoot for the former Oasis frontman’s new song Come Back to Me.

But the DJ and blogger, who lives in Ayr, was then horrified to learn the private gig would take place down a narrow flight of stairs at the King Tut’s venue in Glasgow.

Robyn immediately emailed Warner Bros Music, who set up the shoot, to explain her problem. But they never got back to her so she missed out on the gig.

The company have since apologised for the blunder and offered her tickets for Gallagher’s upcoming Glasgow gig and other goodies.

Robyn, who has had chronic nerve pain since birth, said the application asked for her social media details and she gave links which made her disability evident.

She then received an email from Warner Bros to tell her she had been chosen to take part.

She said: “My heart sank when I spotted it was at King Tut’s. It baffles me why they chose me knowing a disabled person is unlikely to be able to make it down a flight of stairs. I’m absolutely gutted. I’m not even allowed to appear in a music video just because I’m a wheelchair user and can’t access the film location.

“It ’ s important for the future that venue promoters and gig organisers take these things into consideration.”

Andy Prevezer, of Warner Bros, said: “We have apologised for her email remaining unanswered and have offered her special tickets for the show next month.

“This wasn’t just the fault of the label, but as much that of the venue for not making it clear to us that there was any issue with wheelchairs.”

Susan Kerr, of King Tut’s, said: “This event was arranged through the label and, without us being made aware, we were unable to help and meet the needs of this fan.”
