Castle coast is at the heart of TV love story

Festive screenings

- Stephen Houston

Our rocky coast has been given a giant injection of LOVE - and tens of millions of people are seeing it.

The shore below Culzean Castle was chosen by Vodafone as the centrepiece of its festive television advert.

It brought actor Martin Freeman to the estate, including shots of him getting dropped off by a historic taxi at the gates.

Freeman starred in the ad with Welsh actress Lisa Diveney, who puts on a Scottish accent.

The advert launched on Friday night during Emmerdale and is being shown on ITV nine times.

That includes screenings twice during ‘ I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here’ and Coronation Street.

The last broadcast will be this Saturday, November 25, at 3.45pm during the horse racing at Haydock.

Culzean Castle is seen from the main shots during a grand picnic on the beach.

The ‘ Beach Reunion’ advert follows an earlier ‘ Love on the Platform’ screening with the two actors.

That was shot at Wemyss Bay railway station.

Claire Watson, of Vodafone, said: “We were delighted to be able to film this heart- warming story in such a beautiful location as Culzean Castle.”

The scenario of the advert begins after Freeman meets Diveney at a station watching ‘ It’s a Wonderful Life’ on her tablet.

They meet again at Culzean where it emerges Diveney owns the castle, the beach and has her own butler.

Helen Pringle at Culzean Castle hosted Martin and the shoot for the day.

She said: “The advert will be wonderful publicity for Culzean as it looks rather dramatic in the shots. Martin was here for a day and we also did scenes in the Victorian kitchen and showed him about the estate.”
