Diamond days for the Hendersons
He was used to presenting telegrams and congratulations from Her Majesty.
But Sir Richard Henderson and Lady Henderson were on the receiving end on Wednesday.
The current, as well as past members of the Lord Lieutenancy of Ayrshire and Arran, were out in force in their honour.
The couple, of Blairston, near Alloway, are celebrating 60 years of wedded bliss.
A party of 70 were present at Enterkine House Hotel for their diamond day.
The dashing young lawyer had married Frances at St Ninians Church in Troon on November 9, 1957.
He was Lord Lieutenant from 1991 to 2006, taking the royal baton from Sir Bryce Knox and passing it to John Duncan.
And they wanted to mark the 60th anniversary in fine style.
Their daughter Julia said: “Mum and dad always did, and still do love a good party.
“We all had a great lunch and my father delivered a fine speech.
“It was lovely to see them still so active at their 60th.”
Major Sir Richard, a keen tennis player and member of Prestwick Golf Club, is now 86, and Frances. a member at Troon Ladies, a youthful 81.
The couple have three children – Julia, John and Charles – and four grandchildren.
