Question time for students
As part of Parliament Week run by the UK Parliament, the History and Modern Studies Department at Prestwick Academy organised a “Question Time @ Prestwick Academy” Event and invited all South Ayrshire Secondary schools along.
The Higher Politics class from Belmont Academy were delighted to attend the event, where local and national politicians, John Scott MSP, Colin Smyth MSP, Dr Philippa Whitford MP, and Patrick Harvie MSP, took questions from the audience and debated the burning issues of the day.
After the event the politicians mixed with the audience, answering questions and even posing for the occasional selfie! This was a fantastic event with a big thanks to Prestwick Academy

Four groups of Belmont Academy pupils presented their Duke of Edinburgh Gold presentations. Two sailing groups, a walking group and a canoeing group shared their experiences from their expeditions, they presented to their fellow participants and parents, exploring the various aims that they had set, sights they saw, and challenges they faced along the way. The assessor was glad to say they all passed the presentation section and completed their expeditions. This is a major step to achieving their gold Duke of Edinburgh award and allowing them to travel to Holyrood to collect their award from royalty.
