Prestwick aim to move clear at top

But seniors suffer defeat by league leaders

Prestwick seniors could not use home advantage when they lost 66- 45 to table toppers Blantyre.

On Saturday, they will bid to bounce back when they make the trip across the water to take on Cowal.

The gents will look to move four points clear at the top of their section when they travel to take on nearest rivals Dumbarton.

The ladies are back at the Bellevue Road Stadium against Dumbarton at a changed time of noon to 4pm.

Andy Kilday, Alistair Smillie, Craig Lindsay and Paul Foster lost out to the Galleon in the quarter- finals of the SIBA National Fours playdowns at East Kilbride.

Earlier, they had wins a g a i n s t Dumbar t o n , Inverclyde and Blantyre.

The ladies team, skipped by Wilma Ogilvie, lost to Dumbarton in round one.

On Sunday, Danny Frew, William Wallace, Archie Patrick and David Phillips take their place in the SIBA Senior Fours at Ardrossan against Paisley at 2pm.

Ross Gouldstone attended the SYIBA trial at Abbeyview on Sunday and has made the second trial, which will take place at the same venue in the new year.

Rebecca Houston has gained an automatic place in the squad after winning the SYIBA Masters title at Perth earlier in the month. Auchinleck Auchinleck seniors beat Ayr 58- 56 at home. Scores: S Moore 17, S Wylie 11; W McLatchie 12, G Jack 21; S Graham 13, J Henderson 9; E Duncan 16, D McKie 15.

Hannah Smith, Margaret Bingham, Maureen Shimmons and Claire Johnston lost 191- 4 to East Lothian in the National Fours playdowns,

Sam Watson, Les Fowler, Richard Easterbroo­k, Billy McArthur lost 24- 20 to Headwell in the gents.

George Robertson and Sophie Reid both played well in the SYIBA inder- 17 trial at Abbeyview, where the selectors had a tough time taking the 50 trialists down to 24 for the second trial.

Sophie was successful but George did not make the squad for Abbeyview in January.

On Saturday the senior gents travel to Cumbernaul­d.

The gents entertain Allander from 2- 6pm.

On Sunday the SIBA gents Senior Fours playdowns will be held at Ardrossan where Eddie Duncan, Jim McCracken, Derek Monaghan and Jim Burns play Ayr at 10am.

Heather Kay, Hannah Smith and Claire Johnston will play in SIBA ladies senior team trial at Paisley from noon to 4pm.

Baird Bowl: Mauchline 4, Auchinleck Indoor 2 points; Cumnock 6, Galston 0.

Sunday’s fixtures ( 11am to 1pm): Galston v Auchinleck Outdoor; Glaisnock Valley v Auchinleck Indoor. Ayr Ayr’s Derek Lang, Hugh Brown, David Shields and Paul Shields lost 21- 22 to eventual qualifiers Galleon in the Scottish Fours playdowns.

The gents head to East Kilbride in the league on Saturday.

The seniors bid to bounce back from a 56- 58 defeat to league leaders Auchinleck when they host Coatbridge at 11am.

Margaret Storr, Jean Thomson, Grace Hay and Maureen McCubbin beat Inverclyde, Allander and Dumbarton before losing 17- 21 against Blantyre in the quarter final of the Scottish Fours playdowns.

On Saturday. the ladies host Ardrossan at 2pm.
