Look at you now, Marney

Mum is less than half the woman she was

When Marney Gardner’s doctor said she was a “walking miracle”, she was pleased.

But when he added that she’d die before her 10- year- old daughter’s 21st birthday, she cried all evening.

The problem was her 27 stone bulk - too heavy for her doctor’s scales to measure.

Heartbroken at the prospect of missing her childrens’ move into adulthood, Marney decided to take control of her health.

On January 4 last year she embarked on a healthy- eating programme and lost over 11 stones, 12 pounds before Christmas.

“I had been in denial for years,” said 47- year- old Marney from Troon, “telling everybody I was happy with my weight.

“It took my doctor to spell out the consequences to my children of my situation for me to take the decision to change it.”

Marney had given up hope. She’d spent over £ 8000 on various diets over the years only to pile on the weight.

“The answer was in my hands,” said d Marney, an Independent t Consultant with the health and wellness company Arbonne.

She embarked on Arbonne’s 30 days to Hea l t hy Living g programme which cuts ts out alcohol, tea, coffee, dairy, wheat and sugar from her daily meals.

Meat, fish and chicken became her staple diet with most vegetables and fruits permitted.

The Arbonne products – including pro protein shakes, herbal tea tea, digestion aids and he healthy energy drinks – aim to balance the body’s ne needs through the change in routine. “I lost over 100 pounds in the first 100 days,” sa says Marney…” and felt energised and encouraged.” She explained: “It’s a nutritional balance of the body’s system… which gets rid of toxicity, inflammation and stress. Once it’s done that, the body will lose the fat it uses for protection.” Marney still aims to lose a further two and a half stones – to reach what she considers to be her optimal weight of just over 13 stones.

“I no longer live to eat. Instead, I eat to live and I sleep like a log.”

Now Marney aims to be an ambassador to those who’ve lost hope.

“I had lost hope of living a normal life,” admits Marney. “Now I train in the gym and join in activities with my three children that I’d long since stopped.”

What’s more, she’s looking forward to daughter Melissa’s 21st birthday party... in 2028.
