Ramblers to follow Coastal Path

- Mike Wilson

Ayr & District Rambling Club are organising a 6.75mile circular walk starting at Dunure Harbour on Saturday, January 13.

The route follows the Ayrshire Coastal Path southerly before crossing fields to the road near Drumshang farm.

After a short stretch of road walking, the route heads along a lane and a farm track through woodland towards a small burn, that will be crossed before climbing gradually up Blacktop Hill.

Once past the fishermen’s loch, the walk joins a farm track leading to Fisherton, and continues downwards to re- join the Coastal Path back to Dunure Harbour.

Meet at Millbrae car park in Ayr at 8.50am.

On Sunday, South Ayrshire Ramblers will head for Loch Doon for a medium- grade walk, starting at the bridge near the Garpel Burn and proceeding west along a forest road, which later becomes a path through the woods.

The route heads south and east on fairly rough ground to climb to the summit of Craiglee ( 523m), from where there are excellent views.

From the trig point, the group will descend easterly before climbing the Wee Hill of Craigmulloch ( 427 m) and descending south to join a forest road parallel to the Loch Doon road.

This will be followed back to the start.

Meet at Prestwick Town Railway Station car park for 8.50am departure.
