Pupils step out for ball

- Mike Wilson

Pupils from 22 schools served up a treat when South Ayrshire Competitive Sport and Active Schools hosted their annual dance competition for Primary and Secondary Schools in Troon Concert Hall.

The youngsters performed within four categories.

Infants: 1 Forehill PS ‘ We Go Together’, 2 Holmston PS, 3 Forehill PS ‘ You’re Welcome.’

Upper School ( Primary): 1 Dalmilling PS, 2 Heathfield PS, 3 Kingcase PS.

Secondary: 1 Ayr Academy, 2 Kyle Academy, 3 Queen Margaret Academy.

Dance Leader Groups: 1 Kingcase PS ( Chloe and Cerys, Prestwick Academy Dance Leaders), 2 Queen Margaret Academy ( Sophie and Neve, Queen Margaret Academy Dance Leaders), 3 Symington PS ( Chloe, Prestwick Academy Dance Leader).

The Dance competition has been a huge success in South Ayrshire thanks to the Dance Leaders who support individual schools.

Every summer, each secondary school has the opportunity to offer up to 30 S4- 6 girls the chance to take part in a dance workshop within their school.

The workshops are developed to motivate and inspire teenage girls to become more active through dance. The girls are also introduced to a variety of dance styles such as street dance, jazz and contemporary.

Following the workshop, pupils are then selected for a place on the Level 1 Award in Dance Leadership course.
