Richard off to New Year flier
Penwhapple Fishing Club held their first New Year Day competition on January 1 of the year 2000 and it has been held every year since.
This year ,10 members turned out on a mild day but the calm conditions, most unusual for Penwhapple at any time, made fishing conditions far from ideal but the competitors set off in good spirits at noon. However, the fish were not easily found.
This year’s winner was Richard McDonald whose nice brown trout was the only catch of the day.

For the brave who braved the cold, the fly still fished well until the ice came.
The bait loch was the same but the surprise was a couple of double figure carp coming out for Scott and a new PB for Willie Hodge, a carp of 12lb 4oz.

Andy and Ian were catching carp using Method Feeders with pellet on the Carp Water.
Fly Fishery: Really busy last week with lots of fish being caught.
Andy from Kilwinning was top rod of the week releasing 32. Alec Bowler released 29 with Wullie Riddicks releasing 28.
Over 20 DBLs caught with Buzzers and Lures being the best flies. Kenny Barrie is the latest angler into the next round of the Winter Knockout after beating Barry Young 7- 5.
