Prestwick star beats home favourite

- Mike Wilson

Paul Foster retained the SIBA National Singles title he won 12 months ago after beating Billy Mellors ( East Lothian) 21- 19 in a high standard final at Blantyre on Sunday.

The Prestwick Indoor star beat home club favourite Stewart Anderson 21- 17 in the semi final on Saturday afternoon to book his place in the final.

Foster, who is off to the Gold Coast for the Commonwealth Games later this year, will now take part in both the singles and pairs at the British Isles Championships at Paisley in March.

Meanwhile, Foster and David Gourlay, who recently won the Scottish International Open at Perth, are at Potters this week for the World Championships.

Prestwick ladies and gents are back in league action after the festive break. The gents take the trip across the water to take on Cowal as they look to keep their promotion push on track.

The ladies will bid to finish the season off on a high at home to Ayr.

On Sunday the Under 35s takes place at Ayr in the new round robin format. Prestwick and Ayr combine in this event and will compete against Auchinleck and Ardrossan throughout the day.

Allison Granger and Jill West travel to Ardrossan on Sunday to compete in the last 16 of the National Senior Pairs where they will take on Ayr at 10am.

Ayr gents entertain league leaders West of Scotland on Saturday.
