Bell rings in change to win the league
Steven Bell insists he didn’t bale out on Stranraer because of their cash crisis – he left because he wants to win a league medal.
And although his debut turned sour with a 2- 1 home defeat by Arbroath, the former Stair Park skipper has no doubts he’s made the right move.
Bell, 32, has signed an 18 month full- time deal.
He said: “It was always my plan to leave Stranraer in January as I wanted to be nearer the central belt so that my family can watch me play.
“I also wanted the opportunity of winning the league and although there was interest from other League One clubs, I was sold on Ayr once I spoke to the manager and knew this was where I wanted to come. I have a real hunger to succeed.”
Bell started Saturday’s defeat in midfield but was pushed back to central defence after Chris Higgins went off injured.
He said: “Fair play to Arbroath, they played us at our own game. But I still don’t think we deserved to lose.
“We could have been three or four up at half- time and I had a couple of chances as did big Lawrence [ Shankland].”
