HELP US GET THROUGH CRISIS

McCall faces injury pile- up

- Mike Wilson

Ian McCall M is trying to whee wheel and deal in the tran transfer market as wav wavering Ayr face an inju injury crisis. Five Fi players are definitely out of Saturday’s crunch trip to leaders Raith who have hav moved a point ahead with two games in hand. Skipper Skip Ross Docherty and Chris H Higgins will both see a specialist on Thursday while Andy Ge Geggan, Ross Docherty and Brian Bria Gilmour are all still sidelined. sidelined The o only good news is that Michael Mic Rose and Craig McGuffie, McGuffi who both missed Saturday’s Saturda 2- 1 defeat by Arbroath, Arbroath could be fit to return. McCall McCal is scouring the loan market and admits he may have to shift one or two out to balance the books.

McCall said: “Airdrie deserved to beat us but the two home games we lost were criminal – we threw both of them away.

“That has put us against the eight ball for the time being but we’ve got to kick on through this period and stick together.

“We are going through a difficult time but there is still a long way to go. However, we do need our injury list to clear up pretty quickly.

“We’ve not had a full complement of players since beating Raith 3- 0. We got away with it and did well at certain times but we do need our injury list to clear pretty quickly.

“I brought in captains at the start of the season but the worry is they are all out at the same time.

“We will go to Raith and give it a go. We may have to pick a team that is way too attacking but that’s what we’ve got. It’s tough on defenders but we defend as a team.

“I am trying to wheel and deal. I am trying everything I can to keep us in the mix while we are in the middle of a horrible injury problem but my worry is that none of the injuries appear to be minor.”

McCall backs new signing Steven Bell to make a big impact.

He said: “Steven has been fantastic for Stranraer and played well over 150 games for them.

“He was the Stranraer captain and you can never have enough captains in your team. He has great experience at this level and the league above and can play in a number of positions for us which is very important.”

Teenager Stuart Faulds, who has come off the bench in the last two games, is pressing hard for a start.

McCall said: “He looks ready to play. Our bench at Kirkcaldy will be full of young boys but we’ve just got to get on with it.”

McCall dismisses the notion that it’s a must- win at Starks Park as there will still be 14 games to go. However, defeat would leave Ayr four points behind with two games more played and that would be a mountain.
