Offence took place in woods

- Sarah Hilley

A 16- year- old boy has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in a wood.

The student who can’t be named for legal reasons has been added to the sex offenders register for 30 months.

He was convicted of grabbing the woman’s head, thrusting his privates towards her face and uttering sexual remarks during the terrifying incident.

It happened in a wood near Mauchline.

Appealing for his young client to be spared prison at Ayr Sheriff Court last week, lawyer Hugh Duncan said: “He understands the behaviour was totally inappropriate.” He added: “He thought he was having a laugh.”

The court heard the female victim certainly didn’t find it funny.

Mr Duncan said the boy has been unable to continue with his college course because of the charge.

The teen who denied the act during a trial was sentenced to 250 hours of unpaid work at Ayr Sheriff Court on Friday as an alternative to custody.

He must also undergo community supervision for 30 months.

He carried out the perverted assault on October 6, last year.

At an earlier trial he was found guilty of standing in front of the woman, thrusting his privates t owards her head, repeatedly seizing hold of her head, thrusting his privates toward her head, and uttering sexual remarks to her.
