Rural group remember former president

- Alloway SWRI

The February meeting of Alloway SWI opened with a minute’s silence for former president Sandra McEwing who had died so suddenly.

In her time as president, Sandra encouraged a few new members to join and through this Alloway won ‘ The Barbara Brookshire’ trophy for most new members in a session.

She was a talented baker, knitter and artist and competed many times for Alloway. Bowling was another of her passions and Sandra gained funding to start the Friday Carpet Bowling. Sandra will be very much missed by all the members.

Linda then introduced popular demonstrator Janette Cousar who, with the assistance of her friend Ina, soon produced a lovely aroma as she baked muffins, traybakes and a cranberry and sultana loaf for everyone to sample.

Competition results were Valentine’s Cup Cake 1st was Margaret McCreath with 2nd June Foreman. Valentine’s Poem was won by Maureen McKee with Georgina Struthers 2nd and Marjorie McCracken 3rd. Janette Scobie won Flower of the Month with Angela Smith 2nd and Marjorie McCracken 3rd.

Linda wished the carpet bowling team success as they compete in the Federation Tournament at Craigie on February 17.

The next meeting is The Guest Night which will be held in Alloway Village Hall on Wednesday, March 14. at 7.30 when The Waulking Group will entertain.
