- Abi Smillie

some of the most vulnerable pupils are afforded a healthy start to the day.

It sees staff and young people have their breakfast whilst enjoying a chat with friends and teachers before lessons start.

Pastors John and Rachel Smillie heard about the inspiring work of the school’s breakfast club and nurture groups through church member Lynda Lewis who is a teaching assistant at Kilwinning Academy.

Pastor John said: “Our church members feel really good about helping and making a difference in the kids lives.

“We thought it was a great opportunity to invest and support a positive input into the lives of these young kids by helping them have the best possible start to their school day.”

Church members helped raise £ 600 over a six- month period.

Nurture Classroom Assistant Lynda thanked the church for sponsoring the club.

She added: “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

“Our young people love coming to breakfast club as not only can they have breakfast but a chat with both friends and staff which puts them in good stead for learning for the rest of their day.”

West Coast hold their weekly service every Sunday morning at 11am at the Mercure Hotel in Ayr which anyone is welcome to attend.
