Travellers soil beach

Revolting human waste is left scattered on dunes

- Stephen Houston

Travellers have sparked outrage by leaving human excrement on an ayr beach. Fury has erupted after pristine dunes have been soiled and white toilet paper dumped.

an illegal encampment remained on the shore at seafield on Monday.

Councillor Derek McCabe, backing our Clean ayr campaign, said: “sadly this is just another example of the irresponsibility and disrespect some people have for this community.”

Beachcombers have been left appalled after travellers used the beach as a cesspit.

Pristine dunes have been soiled with their excrement and toilet paper.

An illegal encampment remained on the shore at Seafield in Ayr on Monday.

Expensive vehicles and caravans were scattered on the grassy leisure area in front of Seafield Drive.

The spot is just yards from a busy Indian restaurant and the 30p- ashot public loos at the Blackburn Road car park.

Multiple outdoor toilets were created along the strip of dune grass.

Soiled paper and the inner cardboard rolls were thrown around the human waste.

Councillor Derek McCabe, backing our Clean Ayr campaign, said: “Sadly this is just another example of the irresponsibility and disrespect some people have for this community.

“I hope the money in the budget for neighbourhood services is used for enforcement action against these people as there has to be punishment.”

The Post alerted South Ayrshire environmental health staff to the hygiene hazard.

Dog walker Gail Nicol, who nearly stepped in the filth, said: “It beggars believe how human beings can behave like neanderthals .

“They have come into our area and defecate all over it. The police should have been called to force them to pick it up.”

Vehicles – including a Mitsubishi 4X4 and VW Golf – simply drove on to the foreshore from Seafield Drive as there are no bollards to prevent it.

Council workers were brought in to remove the poo after being called in by the Ayrshire Post.

Director Donald Gillies said: “We want to ensure that everyone can enjoy our beaches and this means that all waste should be disposed of properly.

“Once we were made aware of the problem we arranged for the waste to be removed as quickly as possible.”
