Millions of tasty fish and chips have been fried in 50 years

For 50 years

The Wellington Restaurant has been the master fryer in Ayr town centre.

In those five decades the team has dished up one million fish suppers and three and a half million bags of chips.

The Iannotti family have owned and operated the Wellington since 1968.

It was founded by four brothers – Alfie, Michael, Gus and Livio – who originally hailed from an Italian town inland from Naples called Piedimonte.

Nowadays it’s cousins Roberto and Antonio who own Wellington’s providing day- to- day management with a dedicated band of employees.

Antonio, whose father is Alfie, was born the very day the family first got the keys to the Wellington.

And this Saturday, March 17 Wellington Restaurant will celebrating 50 years in the town by raising money for three Ayrshire charities with every item on the menu half price! ( excluding drinks)

Antonio said: “The reason we decided to hold a charity fundraising day on our 50th anniversary was because we wanted to give something back to the community who have been so loyal to us over the last 50 years.

“We will be raising money for Ayrshire Cancer Support, Seascape and Mary’s Meals and we hope everyone comes along and celebrates with us.“

A landmark in Ayr, the Wellington Restaurant is a true family affair with generations of families working from grandmothers to mothers and daughters.

Many an Ayrshire family has enjoyed a carry- out or a sit- in meal.

In the summer months holiday- makers regularly flock to the Wellington for their fish suppers as they arrive in Ayr or wait for their bus back to Glasgow and beyond from the nearby bus station.

So celebrate 50 years of frying excellence with The Wellington Restaurant and help Ayrshire charities too.
