Flying the flag on this special day
An aircraft company has celebrated two decades of hard work.
Woodward Aircraft Engine Systems marked their 20th anniversary for their site on Shawfarm Road in Prestwick.
Employees joined together alongside the company’s President and Vice President from Chicago on Thursday, March 8, for a special dinner. South Ayrshire Council held a special ceremony to celebrate Commonwealth Day.
The ceremony took place on Monday, March 12, and saw the Commonwealth Flag being raised at Ayr’s St Germain- en- Laye Gardens, marking Commonwealth Day 2018.
Commonwealth Day is the annual celebration of the Commonwealth nations with people from all over the British Isles taking part in local events.
Each year the ceremony is based around a particular theme and this year the theme was ‘ The importance of working together to create a better future’.
Helen Moonie, South Ayrshire Provost, feels that this year’s theme seems particularly timely.
She said: “We’re committed to making life better for people in South Ayrshire and promoting equality for all goes to the heart of everything we do.
“We celebrated LBGT rights throughout February and lent our support to the recent International Women’s day.”
She added: “Working together to create a fairer world is a job for all of us and it will only be by truly listening to understand today’s issues that we’ll be able to make positive changes for future generations.”
