Clubs team up to help orphans
Rotary club members have supplied a Boy’s Brigade group with the chance to help out at an orphanage overseas.
Ayr Rotary Club Treasure Chest fund kindly gifted the 17th Ayr Boy’s Brigade in Castlehill with a £ 200 cheque.
The money had assisted the group to travel to Romania to carry out work at an orphanage run by the Rhema Foundation.
At the Rotary club’s meeting last week, Doug Wilson welcomed Ian Queen, Brigade Captain and Gavin Drysdale, Brigade member, to tell their experiences of the 2017 trip.
Ian told the group of the unpleasant conditions of the orphanage which he encountered.
Castlehill Church, Mary’s Meals, and the BB have successfully raised money for the Rhema Foundation with much of this directed towards finding parents and a home for the orphans.
On their first visit the BB had provided practical help which included building a ‘ house’ which in effect was described as ‘ no more than four walls’.
Their second trip in 2017, however, involved more social activities and the team were welcomed because it was their ‘ presence that mattered’ and they were the only group who had committed to returning.
Gavin completed the talk by describing the hugely rewarding experience for all the boys and his own individual experience as ‘ something special’.
Doug thanked Ian and Gavin for their joint presentation and wished them well in the continuation of a project to which they are clearly committed.
