Top police goals revealed for beat
‘ We need you.’
That is the message from South Ayrshire Area commander Gary I’Anson who is appealing for residents to give their views on policing priorities.
The Chief Inspector has released a draft of five major priorities for the force until 2021 based on comments received so far.
But he wants more feedback on what is important before they are finalised.
The priorities so far are: 1 Reduce violence, disorder and anti- social behaviour.
2 Reduce harm to communities by tackling alcohol and drug misuse.
3 Protect people at risk of harm.
4 Improve road safety.
5 Reduce Acquisitive crime.
Chief Inspector I’Anson said: “Police in South Ayrshire are trying to work as hard as we can to make the area safer. We are trying to do so by building on partnership work. The priorities provide a focus for the finite resources we have as we want to make the best use of them. We are responding to what people are telling us.”
Safer Communities Officer Jamie Dunlop said: “It is important to identify what our local residents think are the big concerns for them so we can target their communities.”
Chief Inspector I’Anson said sometimes a major part of police work ( roughly about 70 per cent) involves protecting people and doesn’t involve any arrests.
And he explains searching for missing people and rushing to help those who have self harmed takes up a significant amount of police time.
He said: “We are trying to build on early intervention for people who are vulnerable.”
