A decade of walking among night stars
VOICE OF THE PEOPLE
The Ayrshire Hospice is gearing up to celebrate the 10th year of their Land o’Burns Starlight Walk.
This year’s event will take place at Ayr Racecourse on Saturday, May 19.
Since the event was first introduced in 2009, over 10,000 walkers have taken part in the walk, collectively raising over £ 1.3million for the hospice. To mark this special anniversary, members of the original organising committee are back on board, determined to make the event even bigger and better than ever.
They aim to make everything about the number 10 and are appealing to businesses, companies and organisations to sign up 10 people or 10 teams to the walk
Graeme Strawhorn, senior fundraising officer who is coordinating this year’s event, said: “We would like to say big huge thanks to all of our 10,000+ supporters, sponsors and dedicated volunteers who have supported this event.”
There’s three routes to choose from - four miles, nine miles and 13 miles and you’ll receive an event t- shirt ( this year in an array of fantastic colours from the last nine years), snacks and water along the route, as well as a hearty bacon roll at the end. There, you’ll also be presented with a very special 10- year commemorative medal that you can wear with pride.
If you’d like to register, log on to www. ayrshirehospice. org or call the team on 01292 288488. Registration costs £ 10 for under 16s and £ 20 for adults.
