JUNIOR BOSS OUT TO DUMP HIS MATE

Hendo out to dump his former Ayr team- mate

-

Darren Henderson will try to dump an old Ayr United mate and lead Hurlford into the semifinals of the Scottish Cup.

Hendo and Bo’ness boss Stevie Kerrigan were Somerset Park buddies in the 90s. Now they’re plotting each other’s downfalls as they bid to join Auchinleck in the last four.

Hurlford will hope to finish the job in a Blair Park replay on Saturday after their 10 men forced a 2- 2 draw.

But they will have to go without sentoff Danny Mitchell and veterans Mark Roberts and Allan Jenkins who were crocked in the first game.

Henderson said: “We’re down to the bare bones but it takes only 11 players to win a game.

“I played with Stevie at Ayr and when I took over at Glenafton he was already there. I kept him on as my No 2.

“We had a few chats on Saturday but the dugouts at Hurlford are on opposite sides so we’ll keep the banter until before and after.

“Bo’ness were favourites for the first tie and will probably be the same again for the replay but home advantage is massive in the cup.”

Glen Mitchell gave Hurlford an early lead before his brother Danny was sent off after 30 minutes.

Scott Gibb equalised but Glen Mitchell’s second put Hurlford in sight of the finish line only for Callum Scott to force a second game.

AUCHINLECK, who sealed their semi place with a 2- 0 win at Carnoustie, bid to turn up the title heat when they visit Clydebank.

Willie Lyle and Graham Wilson hit two first- half goals.

GIRVAN host GLENAFTON in one of the games of the day. Girvan plunged to a 3- 0 defeat at home to Clydebank who counted through Ross Cunningham ( 2) and Steven Higgins.

Glens hit back through Chris Dallas to draw 1- 1 with Kilwinning who had taken the lead through Bryan Boylan.

CUMNOCK head to Pollok after Paul Burns earned them a 1- 1 draw away to Kilbirnie with a super volley.

Boss Peter Leonard claimed: “It makes me sound greedy but I’m disappointed as we could have won. Stephen McKenna, Del Esplin and James Lundie were excellent.”

TROON try to get their faltering First Division promotion bid on track when they head to Cumbernauld.

The Portland Parkers, who have signed former Kilmarnock, Partick and Cowdenbeath full- back David Syme, crashed 2- 0 to Largs who scored through John Carter and Alex McWatters.

Steven McCreadie was sent off in the last minute.

WHITLETTS bid to step up their Ayrshire League promotion hopes when they entertain one of boss George Grierson’s former clubs in MUIRKIRK.

ANNBANK, who lost 4- 1 at home to ARDEER, travel to title chasing DALRY.

MAYBOLE entertain CRAIGMARK while LUGAR, who beat WINTON 5- 3, head to ARDEER.
