Kids hae haggis at schools’ Burns event
The walls of Ayr Town Hall echoed to the songs and poems of Scotland’s National Bard at the Annual Schools Burns Supper last month.
The Burns For Life event, organised by Alloway Burns Club in partnership with South Ayrshire Council, brought together over 80 pupils across 26 of the Primary Schools associated with Ayr, Belmont, Carrick, Kyle, Queen Margaret academies and Wellington Senior School.
The Burns Supper was jointly chaired by Eilidh Andrew and Reece Adams both senior pupils from Carrick Academy and began with Teagan Harley of Belmont Academy piping in the haggis which was carried by Adam McIntyre of Tarbolton Primary.
It was then addressed by Ian Davidson and Alana Kerr both of Holmston Primary.
The Selkirk Grace was thereafter recited by Scott Hume of Tarbolton Primary before the youngsters sat down to a three- course meal.
The entertainment was provided by pupils who provided a great mixture of both Burns’ works and those of other Scottish poets.
As the night drew to a close, a great vote of thanks was given by Nicole Pettigrew and Sienna Simpson, both of Braehead Primary.
Margaret Skilling, Past President of Alloway Burns Club and the Ayrshire Association of Burns Clubs presented each school with a book to mark their attendance at the Burns Supper.
The fantastic evening drew to a close with a stirring rendition of Auld Lang Syne.
