Carrick bid for a third final fling

-

Carrick will be backed by a big travelling support on Saturday when they head to Alloa in the semi- final of the BT National Shield.

A win would take them to BT Murrayfield for the third year in a row, a remarkable achievement.

Carrick went 12 points clear of Allan Glen’s at the top of BT National League One when they routed Oban Lorne 87- 18 last Saturday. With only six games to go, it leaves the Maybole men in great position to deliver the title.

Carrick’s 40th birthday celebrations kicked off with a match between Carrick Oldies and Ayr Oldies. A total of £ 540 was raised for Ayrshire Cancer Support from the day’s activities.

Meanwhile, Marr Rugby’s 2nd XV grabbed a bonus point 26- 0 win away against Boroughmuir to leave them in a great position to secure second place and promotion.

They can take the final step on Saturday when they entertain Dundee at Fullarton. Marr are 10 points ahead of GHA who have a game in hand so mathematically GHA might catch and overtake Marr.

But, to do so, will require two bonus point wins and rattle in more than 240 points to reduce the point differential. Marr can be masters of their own destiny by getting points from the match against Dundee and achieve another milestone in club history.

Tries from Mac McInnes, Jack Scott, Craig Kolarik and Ritchie McNicol swept Marr to victory. Conversions came from Rudi Marshall ( 1) and Craig Kolarik ( 2).

Saturday’s fixtures: 2s home v Dundee; 3s home v Cumnock 2s.
