Lorna leads way for Ayrodynamic club
Bronze female supervet at Stirling
Members of the Ayrodynamic Triathlon Club faced two major events in a busy weekend – several headed for Stirling and the Scottish Duathlon Championships, while others went to Peebles for the club spring training weekend.
The racers had a mixed bag of results, with one podium, a couple of excellent performances, but also some disappointment when early- season illness and injury contributed to lowerthanexpected times and placing.
Lorna Sloan won bronze in the female supervet category finishing 118th in 2 hours and 47 minutes for the tough course of a 10km run, 20 mile cycle and 5km run.
Tom Jessop made a terrific return to racing at this level after several years off, finishing top Ayro competitor, 22nd overall in 2 hours and 13 minutes.
The race was won by George Goodwin, from Rugby, in 1 hour 58 minutes. Karl Owens was 68th on 2.26, Alastair Stewart was 79th in 2.31, just missing out on a medal in the vintage category.
In the veteran female category, Lorna Todd was fourth and 82nd overall in 2.31 while Mandy Stewart failed to fire on all cylinders, finishing 104th.
Meanwhile, a large group enjoyed an action- packed weekend just outside Peebles.
Saturday saw everyone in the swimming pool at 7am for a stiff session supervised by coach Davie Auchie. Breakfast dealt with, the group then set out in perfect weather on a long cycle which took it up and over the challenging Talla climb with its slopes of 20 per cent in places, and snow lying beside the road.
On the return to their base, some of the stronger athletes still had the energy for a short run.
Sunday began in the pool once again, before a shorter cycle completed the training weekend, which was voted a huge success.
