Carrick make capital for three in row

-

Carrick are off to Murrayfield for a record third year in a row after staking a place in the final of the BT National Shield.

The Maybole lions came from behind to beat Alloa 20- 10 and will now meet Hawick Harlequins at Murrayfield.

Skipper Stephen Raby’s men will bid for a historic third win in a row.

Last year, they beat Murrayfield Wanderers 41- 28 while in 2016 they were 34- 27 winners over Highland.

Now a big Carrick support is set to be mobilised for the capital showdown on Saturday, April 28.

Hawick booked their final place with a 32- 14 win over Barnton.

Marr did the double at the weekend as the seconds won promotion and the thirds notched a derby victory over Cumnock seconds.

The seconds secured top flight reserve rugby as they battered Dundee Titans 57- 24.

The big home support at Fullarton were well entertained. Marr ran in nine tries and dominated for extensive periods.

It wasn’t all one way traffic though.

Dundee battled well and were deservedly rewarded with a bonus- point try.

They soaked up a lot of pressure from Marr but couldn’t live with the intensity of their attacking play which saw the home side break out several times from deep defence to counter- attack and score.

They will join Hawick, replacing Currie and Edinburgh Accies in the top tier.

Meanwhile on the top pitch the thirds had to dig deep and claw their back from behind to secure a 4031 victory against Cumnock.
