Jail for drink driver whohidcar keysinpant­s

a repeat offender has been jailed for eight months after he was found driving drunk and while disqualife­d.

Nathan Donner, 20, of Cherry Drive in girvan stole his mother’s keys and went on a driving spree on the a714 road at pinmore, near girvan on March 2 this year.

ayr sheriff Court heard police found Donner in the passenger seat of the car in the early hours of March 2 this year on the a714 road.

a witness driving saw the car along the grounds edge and thought there had been an accident.

police were called to the scene where they found Donner, who tried to explain what had happened.

they became suspicious of his version of events and placed him in the rear of the police vehicle.

the court heard Donner had concealed the car keys in his underwear.

solicitor tony Currie said: “Fortunatel­y there were no other vehicles involved.

“It was a week where conditions were hazadous.

“Clearly he was under the influence.

“He had taken the keys and went out with friends.”

the court heard Donner has a previous record.

He was jailed for 17 months in February last year as he brandished a knife and threatened to slash a man in a kebab shop.

Currie continued: “He has reacted well to a community payback order.”

sheriff Desmond Leslie replied: “Has he? He keeps reoffendin­g.”

the sheriff continued: “Well I’m afraid you’ll just have to go to jail until you realise this type of behaviour is not on.”

Donner was sentenced to eight months imprisonme­nt and disqualifi­ed from holding or obtaining a license for two years.

He pled guilty to taking the vehicle without consent, driving while disqualife­d and without insurance and driving with 44 microgramm­es of alcohol in 100 mililitres of breath when the limit is 22.

He was also found in possession of cocaine at ayr
