Ten drink- drive arrests over the Easter weekend

- Lochlin Highet

A total of 10 drivers were arrested and charged by police in Ayrshire over the weekend for alleged drink driving offences.

The eight men and two women, aged between 23 and 70, were all found to be at least twice the legal drink- drive limit with one woman found to be five times the limit and arrested between Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Sergeant Kevin Blackley, of the Ayrshire Divisional Roads Policing Unit, said: “It is very disappointing that drivers continue to get behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol and put lives at risk.

“Most of these detections were as a result of proactive policing and officers acting on information from members of the public.

“We will continue to work with communities to identify illegal drivers and improve road safety in Ayrshire.

“If you do drink and drive, it can have long term repercussions for you, your family and your community.

“It could cost you your job, your reputation or potentially your life, not to mention the effect your actions could have on innocent parties.

“If you are going out for a drink please leave the car at home and make arrangements for travel the morning after. The only safe amount of alcohol to drink before driving is none.”

If you have information on illegal drivers call Police Scotland on 101 ( in an emergency always dial 999).
