Fury over claims dad was told to move boat

- Lochlin Highet

A dad dying from cancer has been ordered to remove his boat from a harbour, his son claims.

The boat, belonging to James Scott, 78, is in the harbour in Dunure.

And it comes as his son, Gary Scott, 50, told the Post that he had a dispute with Dunure Harbourmaster Cameron Kerr.

Gary claims that he would have to foot the bill to remove the 22- foot motor sailor by crane.

But Mungo Scott, secretary of Dunure Harbour Committee, denied Gary’s claims and insisted Mr Scott was not asked to remove his boat from the harbour.

Gary said: “It is supposed to be here for the benefit of the people in Dunure.

“I was born and bred here for 50 years, and my father has been here for most of his life too.

“And there are people from Glasgow, Kilmarnock and Irvine getting boats in this harbour.

And Gary claims the issue all started when hit show Outlander was being filmed in Dunure last month.

He said: “My boat had to be moved across the harbour, but he never phoned me saying he was going to move it - he just did it himself.

“So I phoned him up and asked what he was doing.

“I think we have a right to know what is happening with our boat.”

Gary added: “My father didn’t want a caravan due to his health, so a boat was a perfect pastime.

“I need to look after the boat because he’s not fit enough.

“But we both go out on it when the weather is good, just to get him out and about.

“They charge £ 8 per foot per year, and we are all paid and up to date.”

Mungo Scott told the Post: “Mr Scott was not asked to move his boat from the harbour.”

“Gary Scott met with the Harbour Committee.

“There is absolutely no truth in a claim of being treated unfairly, either at the meeting or at any other time.

“In fact the committee thought all Mr Scott’s complaints had been resolved.

“He is using a mooring in the harbour on a temporary basis.

“No permanent mooring is available - but as long as there is a suitable temporary mooring, Mr Scott can use that.

“This arrangement applies to all boat owners using temporary moorings.”
