The hunt is on for the new Troon Gala Queen and Princess. Judges will choose from Primary 6 girls for the crowning on June 23. Forms from primaries and the library.

T roon and Villages Local Planning Group will host informal sessions on Health and Social Care Partnershi­p in Troon Walker Hall on Wednesday April 18 from 1.30pm to 3.30pm and 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

Help keep your beaches clean and inviting for everyone. A Beach Clean will take place on Sunday April 15 at 10am on the South Beach ( Royal Troon end). Bring gloves suitable for picking up rubbish.

Beethoven and Butterflie­s – a Piano Recital will be given by Gilmour MacLeod on Sunday April 15 at 2.30pm in Troon Old Parish Church. This recital is raising funds for Dr Graham’s Home in Kalimpong and the donation tickets are priced at £ 7. Tickets are on sale at Words @ Music and on the door.

Troon Chorus are holding their Spring Concert this year in St Meddan’s Parish Church on Saturday April 21 at 7.30pm. Tickets £ 8 and £ 4 ( under 18) and can be purchased from Words and Music and Choir members or at the door.

Troon Flower Club meeting was held on March 28 in Walker Hall. President May Keir introduced the demonstrat­or for the evening Heather Curry from Gosforth, the title for her demonstrat­ion being “A Basket Case”. Heather gave the audience lots of interestin­g floral arrangemen­ts in various types of baskets, including “A Hot Air Balloon” and “A Shopping Basket.” The selections of flowers were full of vibrant colours, with use of interestin­g foliage. Together with Heathers interestin­g humorous stories, members and visitors had a most entertaini­ng evening. Next meeting is on April 25 in Walker Hall at 7- 30pm. The demonstrat­or for the evening is Irene Parker from Hexham, and her title is “My Flower World”. Members can bring along a friend free for this meeting.

10k entries – Entries to this year’s Troon 10k were expanded to 1400 adults and, as usual, it is a sell- out. The race is on Wednesday, May 2, leaving South Beach at 7.30pm.

Bowlers – Troon Bowling Club has cut the rate of first year membership to £ 60 in a bid to expand numbers.

A craft fair in aid of Alzheimers UK will be staged at Portland Church Hall on Saturday, April 28, from 10am to noon. Entry is £ 1, children free.

Troon@ Ayrshire Family History Society April meeting is a bus trip to Eastriggs, Dumfries on the 19th. Many years ago in 1916 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle coined a phrase for what he had seen there and that was “The Devil’s Porridge.” Now we will find out exactly what he meant and why it was so important to the war effort. Devil’s Porridge Museum is our destinatio­n. Bus leaves Ivy Cottage at 10am.

Troon Gala is on Saturday June 23 and Wintertain­ment is Sunday November 18.
