25 YEARS AGO

Craigmark boss Mick McCallum will bravely soldier on - despite a 10- 0 Ayrshire Cup mauling by Kilbirnie.

The makeshift Dalmelling­ton team, who were forced to draft in pub league players to make up the numbers, were over- run in a one- sided rout.

Said McCallum: “We need new players yet we have no money. The way ahead is to bring in youngsters and amateurs and concentrat­e on lads from Patna, Dalrymple and Dalmelling­ton. I felt sorry for the players who’ve been with us all season.”

50 YEARS AGO

At a meeting of Girvan Harbour Committee the clerk read a letter from Mr A Fergusson, owner of the “Kingfisher”, a passenger carrying vessel, stating he felt the due of £ 30 was excessive. Mr Fergusson stated what his gross takings were and after deducting expenses there had been little profit.

Councillor I Simpson said it was unusual to have someone disclose their income. But he felt it necessary to see receipts and the lack of revenue could be due to bad weather, over- charging or not being on the job often enough.

100 YEARS AGO

Mr Dent asked Maybole Town Council if the Public Health Committee had many any progress in connection with pig feeding in the burgh.

The clerk said there had not been a meeting yet. Mr Fairlie said the observed some Corporatio­ns had become pig feeders themselves. Refuse of all kinds was gathered from houses and taken to a common centre.

Mr McCubbin said that might do well enough in big towns. Mr Fairlie said the question of food was becoming very serious, more serious than people imagined.
