Talk of the town from our social media

New council parking charges set for Ayr, Troon and Prestwick have not left readers amused.

Frank Frew said: “S. A. C typical, chase the tourists away. “Why can’t they get their heads together and try to attract visitors to the area, not chase them away.” Rab McCormack added: “Absolutely no thoughts on how to get this county back on its feet. “Say what the public like to hear and do what the council wants. “Stop wasting good hard earned public money. “Is there any councillor with any common sense and public decency in South Ayrshire? “Roll on the next council election.” But Rustung Aoba said: “Pay up cheapskates. It’s a couple of quid, you spend more on a lottery ticket. Honestly, folk want everything free, welcome to austerity Scotland. “Deal with it.”

Our revelations about the truth behind South Ayrshire’s budget consultation angered voters.

Heather Hardie said: “Not at all surprised, just disappointed. They take the public for fools.” Jean McMillan said: “Time we got back to councillors doing it on a voluntary basis not being paid and getting pensions for doing very little. “That applies to all parties not just the one running our council. “Maybe then they would be working for those that voted them in and not for their own benefits.” Jamie McGeechan wrote: “To play games with employees and services is not on, making people think that their jobs may be at risk, not on.” And Ikkiv Notluf added: “Cannot understand why these people are still in position. “They should be sacked, such extreme misconduct! What a vile and underhanded thing to do.”

Community champions are being urged to join monthly litter picks, in a bid led by SNP councillor Siobhian Brown.

Claire Forsyth said: “Great to see people trying to improve our town. “Hopefully this will encourage more people to do the same. I am shocked by the number of times I see people ( of all ages) drop litter without a second thought.” But Karen Love said: “Why don’t you just fine people for littering? As they do in Australia if you are caught dropping litter it’s an instant fine as it should be here you see very little rubbish on the streets over there.”
