Jailed after making bogus phone calls

- Abi Smillie

A bogus caller has been jailed for numerous dials to the emergency services.

Scott Christie of Campbell Court in Ayr phoned the emergency line a number of times and in one phone call refused to state what was wrong.

Ayr Sheriff Court heard the 44- year- old had requested an ambulance on March 13 after refusing to say what was wrong, and was taken to A & E department at Ayr hospital.

He was placed within a cubicle with other patients when he began walking around the room in an aggressive manner.

He then approached an observation monitor and punched it.

The court heard March 22 Christie had continued to dial 999 and was heard to have said ‘ I’m going to blow my head off with a shotgun’.

Christie made a further two calls despite Police attending earlier that day to check on him.

Solicitor Ian Gillies said: “He couldn’t be a nicer person when he’s sober.

“The offences are all mirror images.

“He’s been in custody since March 23 and alcohol is not available and he is looking better.

“He could only apologise to everyone he’s offended and annoyed.”

Sheriff Desmond Leslie said: “Had there been the slightest suggestion that you would comply with another order, I would consider that.

“But you’ll leave here, start drinking and repeat the offences.”

Christie pled guilty to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by clenching his fists, pacing around, repeatedly spitting on the floor and punching a monitor causing it to fall to the ground.

He also repeatedly contacted the emergency services and falsely claim that he was going to kill himself with a shotgun and knife and did cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to Police Scotland.

He was sentenced to six months imprisonment.
