The 30th anniversar­y of Troon Town Twinning Associatio­n is being marked by a major six day visit from France.

And the associatio­n is seeking Troon residents who can offer accomodati­on for the French party, between September 13 and 18. Visitors from Villeneuve- sur Lot will be helping in the celebratio­ns and organisers are looking for people to host one or two guests. Various activities will be organised for the visitors during their stay. AN open day and summer fayre at the new Marr College has been put back a week.

That’s after organisers realised they were clashing with Troon Gala Day.

The Marr event is now on Saturday June 16, 10am to 4pm while the Troon Gala Day at South Beach is the following Saturday.

Former pupils are lining up for a look round the new Marr, which has won plaudits for its design.

Lindsey Connor is holding a Funday at Portland Parish Church this coming Saturday, April 28.

She is staging it in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK. Timing is 10am to 2pm, £ 1 entry and kids free.

Stalls for all ages along with tombola, raffle, home- baking and refreshmen­ts.

Marr Cappella are holding their Spring Concert – from Lullaby to Broadway – on Tuesday May 1

at 7.30pm in Portland Parish Church at 7.30pm.

Tickets £ 8 and £ 4 under 18 and are available from Words and Music and Choir members.

Bird Spot – The flooded fields behind Hunter Crescent have attracted a little Egret, Grey Heron

and a pair of Shelduck. A large flock of Curlew can still be seen in the marshy grasses.

A Kingfisher has been spotted near the burn in Fullarton Woods. This is an exciting visitor for

Troon. This bird has been spotted before but mainly along the Pow Burn near Prestwick.

A Garden Day will be held in Portland Church Hall on Saturday May 26 th . A good opportunit­y to buy your bedding plants

Alzheimer Scotland – Jenni McKeand will present Dementia Friends in Portland Parish Church on Sunday April 29 from 2pm- 3pm and again from 3pm - 4pm.
